Module Aims

This module aims to provide students with a structured environment to integrate and consolidate key aspects of clinical practice, including patient care and case management. Emphasis is placed on clinical evaluation, examination, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and the implementation of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) within a supervised outpatient clinic setting, reflecting the responsibilities of a primary contact practitioner. Students will engage in a range of clinical management activities within a broader healthcare context, developing essential interpersonal and interprofessional communication skills. This includes the application of advanced diagnostic imaging and the design of rehabilitation programmes tailored to individual patient needs. The module also fosters reflective practice, ethical conduct, and professional accountability in alignment with the General Chiropractic Council’s Code of Professional Practice (December 2024). Ultimately, it provides the necessary framework for students to meet all statutory requirements and demonstrate the competence and safety expected at the point of graduation, ensuring readiness for entry into professional chiropractic practice.

Content Summary

Case management and reviews of mainstream chiropractic conditions with associated co-morbidities prevalent in common and special patient populations incorporating additional imaging where appropriate.

Evidence based patient management protocols in the context of chiropractic standards of practice including the importance of interdisciplinary communication to benefit patients.

Introduction to all aspects of running an out-patient clinic including, for example securing patient records and treatment room maintenance, infection control, patient triage, keeping accurate records, implementing consent at appropriate points, confidentiality, and professionalism.

Developing skills to be a Reflective Practitioner. Students consider their experiences to gain insights about their whole practice. Reflection supports the student to continually improve the way they work or the quality of care they give to people. These valuable reflective experiences help build resilience, improve wellbeing and deepen professional commitment.

Mentoring year 3 students through Junior Clinic, clinic observation and induction into clinic training year including patient transition. Offering Buddy support to an assigned Year 3 student.

Use of appropriate imaging referral as per relevant legislation where appropriate and implementation of evidence-based rehabilitation protocols in a clinical setting.
