Module Aims

Undertake a period of 60 hours of work based learning under the direction of an employer and an academic supervisor enabling them to learn and develop in a working environment.
Complete appropriate national occupational standards in the workplace.

Content Summary

Academic Supervisor's Responsibilities:
To brief the student on their responsibilities before the work based learning commences. This will involve a learning contract which defines the college’s expectations and assessment criteria.
The work provider will be required to complete the University's 'Health and Safety' checklist and ensure that students are familiar with the content of the work based log.
To ensure the quality of the placement is properly managed.
To agree a programme of work based learning with the work based supervisor and student. To support the student in the achievement of their Learning Objectives.
To visit the students and provide support.
To establish a work based forum from the list of approved work based providers.

The Employers' (Work Based Supervisor) Responsibilities:
To provide induction training including instruction in Health and Safety aspects of the work. To advise student on issues on confidentiality.
To provide the student (by discussion with the academic supervisor) a clearly defined programme to enable the student to meet the learning objectives.

The Students’ Responsibilities:
To attend required induction sessions.
To attend the work place for the required periods.
To work in a safe manner and abide by the rules of the workforce. To complete the required learning outcomes/assessment. Complete the work based log book.
