Module Aims

Undertake a period of 60 hours of work based learning under the direction of an employer and an academic supervisor enabling them to learn and develop in a working environment.

Contextually appraise the work experience within the subject area and critically reflect upon the transferable skills and knowledge gained through your academic studies with those applied during the placement

Content Summary

 The module will provide the student with a range of opportunities from existing short-term-term/part-time work

placements, teaching observation posts, Voluntary Sector and Local Government positions, and research assistant posts.

Academic Supervisor's Responsibilities:
To brief the student on their responsibilities before the work based learning commences. This will involve a learning contract which defines the college’s expectations and assessment criteria

The work provider will be required to ensure the quality of the placement and that it is properly managed. They will also agree a programme of work with the work based learning supervisor and student. To support the student in the achievement of their Learning Objectives

The Employers' (Work Based Supervisor) Responsibilities
To provide induction training including instruction in Health and Safety aspects of the work.
To advise student on issues on confidentiality
To provide the student (by discussion with the academic supervisor) a clearly defined programme to enable the student to meet the learning objectives.

The Students Responsibilities:
To attend required induction sessions
To attend the work place for the required periods
To work in a safe manner and abide by the rules of the workforce
To complete the required learning outcomes/assessment
Complete the work based log book

LO1 Critically evaluate the experience in the workplace in terms of matching skills and knowledge gained with their relevant academic studies, with appropriate evidence.
LO2 Complete an industrial placement and produce a work based diary and reflective assessment report evaluating the effectiveness of the placement.
