Module Aims
To enable the student to :
' Undertake a period of 600 hours or work based learning under the direction of an Employer (nominated work based supervisor) and academic supervisor, enabling them to learn and develop in a working environment.
' Apply, in the workplace, a range of knowledge and skills learnt throughout the award.
' Apply concepts and principles outside the context in which they were first studied.
Content Summary
Academic Supervisors' Responsibilities:\r
To brief the student on their responsibilities before the work based learning commences. \r
To assess possible placements to ensure that the work offered is of an appropriate level and content and if required to ensure that the company complies with the HASAWA 1974 and other relevant health and safety legislation. \r
The company will be required to complete the University's 'Health and Safety Checklist' prior to the placement commencing.\r
If the student is not an employee of the company, then the company will be required to complete the University's Health and Safety Checklist prior to the placement commencing.\r
To agree a programme of work based learning with the work based supervisor and student. \r
To support the student in the achievement of their Learning Objectives.\r
To use visits (at least three) to maintain the necessary student academic support.\r
The Employers'( Work Based Supervisor ) Responsibilities:\r
To provide induction training including instruction in Health and Safety aspects of the work. (If the student is not already an employee)\r
To advise the student on any confidential aspects of the work within operational constraints. (If the student is not already an employee)\r
To seek to provide the student (by discussion with the academic supervisor and student) a clearly defined programme to enable the student to meet their learning objectives.\r
The Students'Responsibilities :\r
To attend required induction sessions.\r
To attend the work place for the required periods.\r
To work in a safe manner and to abide by the rules of the workplace.\r
To complete the required learning outcomes / assessment\r
This module will facilitate the development of Personal Development Planning through the delivery of the key skills identified below in the module descriptor.
