Module Aims

The aim of the module is to enable the students to carry out engineering analysis as part of the design process, to have the ability to interpret the results obtained and make design decisions on the basis of the analysis carried out.

Finite Element Analysis

- Finite Element Theory

- One-dimensional Elements

- Two-dimensional elements (plane stress, plane strain, axisymmetric)

- Finite Element Modelling

- Finite Element Results Interpretation

- Computational Fluid Dynamics Introduction to CFD

Meshing

- Overview of fundamental CFD theory (the Navier-Stokes equations, the finite volume method, boundary conditions, turbulence modelling, solution algorithms)

- Geometry and mesh generation.

- Classification of fluid flow problems, and identification of modelling approach.

- Verification and validation of Numerical Models.

- Postprocessing, reporting and documentation of CFD Data
