Module Aims
To enable students to monitor current issues in support of people who have substance-related needs.
To encourage students to maintain up to date knowledge
To encourage students to contribute to discussion on a range of issues relating to substance misuse
To discuss current developments in chosen areas of interest.
Content Summary
Health and social care services are constantly discussed within the media and issues surrounding substance misuse often gain media interest.
Health and social care practitioners and managers need to keep abreast of issues and developments. This unit encourages students to access up-to-date information on a regular basis
Identification of relevant sources of information with evaluation of their reliability. Conflicting views of various sources and recognition of differing interpretations. Critical evaluation of information collated with an analysis of the impact on services studied. Use of the Internet, journals and the national media. Presentations of issues in class and participation in class discussion. Any potential materials produced that might impact on confidentiality will be addressed where appropriate
