Module Aims

To introduce students to the legislation and policies underpinning government led initiatives in relation to substance misuse

To enable students to identify how socio-economic factors influence policy development

Content Summary

The structure and functioning of British and Welsh Assembly government in relation to substance misuse legislation and policy. Discussion of the role of the police and social care related statutory and non-statutory bodies.

An introduction to the distinctive demography of Wales, identifying the extent of social problems and the link to substance misuse.

Identification of relevant sources of researched evidence to support evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of government led initiatives.
