Module Aims

• Inform students of the historical context concerning social policy and its relevance in contemporary social work practice
• Inform students of the legal system in England and Wales
• Introduce students to legislation and policies that are relevant to health and social work within a Welsh context

Content Summary

• Introduce and explore the legal system in England and Wales.
• Legal framework for enhancing the well-being of the individual, carer, young person and child.
• The Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014
• Challenges inherent within the law.
• Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act (2014) in encouraging the individual, carer and young person in becoming independent, giving them a voice and control over their lives.
