Module Aims

1) To develop underpinning knowledge of the physiology and pathophysiology of common clinical conditions.

2) To integrate the principles of underpinning physiology and pathophysiology of common clinical conditions into the clinical assessment of the students client group

3) To develop strategies for working with patients/clients and other colleagues based on a sound understanding of selected clinical conditions

Content Summary

Clinical conditions commonly seen in practice.

Essential pathophysiological features and diagnostic aspects of common clinical conditions.

National/local guidelines & standards of diagnostic aspects & therapeutic interventions for treating common clinical conditions.

Models of health care intervention such as: identification of ‘Red Flag’ signs & symptoms, first line treatment & referral for further investigation & treatment.

Formulating, implementing & evaluating treatment plans.

Information technology (IT) & expert systems used to support advanced practice.
