Module Aims

To enable the health care professional to critically evaluate systems of care and management interventions consistent with end of life care

Content Summary

The module will critically explore the role of the professional in the care of an individual at the end of life. It will include the exploration of the impact of death and dying from a holistic perspective on the individual and family. The practitioner will define end of life care and acknowledge the diagnosis of death within individual client groups. Advanced care planning in relation to interventions, place and choice will be explored while considering coping with death and dying from an organisational, society, carer and individual perspective. The themes of loss, grief and bereavement will be central within this module. Professional, legal and ethical issues related to death and dying will also be considered through the module.
