Module Aims

To critically analyse the nature and scope of delivering healthcare in austere environments.

Content Summary

Pathophysiology related to acute trauma, systemic approaches to trauma interventions, mechanisms of injury, triage and reverse triage principles, technological and non-technological interventions in acute trauma, drugs and fluids in acute trauma, spinal injuries and their treatment, infection control measures, disease recognition and diagnosis, force protection measures, primary care principles.

Resource management in resource-poor environments, leadership and human factors in extremis.

Exercising professional values and ethical competence in austere environments.
