Module Aims

To effectively ensure that students understand the process of planning, preparing, conducting and effectively reflecting on practical coaching sessions. To develop understanding of the coaching process, whilst additionally supporting continuous coaching development by providing students with key reflective skills in order to develop their overall effectiveness of coaching football.

Content Summary

The module will focus on the theoretical aspects of reflective practice, specifically the use of Gibbs’ reflective cycle, to engage the students in developing reflective skills through specific methods of reflection following their delivery of practical football coaching sessions. Furthermore the students will produce an extensive experiential learning portfolio and reflections demonstrating their coaching development throughout a 6 month period. This process will be facilitated by direct teaching intervention in order to ensure that sufficient knowledge and understanding is developed.
