Module Aims

To enable students to develop and enhance their knowledge and understanding of issues relating to cardio thoracic nursing.

Content Summary

This module will explore the care and management interventions within the cardiothoracic speciality. The module will explore – Anatomy and physiology, aetiology, incidence and prevalence. Atherosclerosis, Acute coronary syndrome, atrial fibrillation, ECG’s, pharmacology, pacing, cardiac surgery, congenital abnormalities, heart failure management, respiratory disease, blood gas analysis, chest drain management, renal disease. It will also provide opportunity for the student to explore evidence based practice.
