Module Aims

To develop an understanding of the balance between health and disease and the application of preventative management and control strategies to practical situations
To build confidence in learners relating demonstrating knowledge about common injuries and disorders in animals and making suggestions for appropriate
first aid/management measures
To gain an overview of current veterinary techniques used to aid the diagnosis and treatment of animals.
Have an insight of named notifiable diseases in the UK and abroad

Content Summary

Relationships between disease transmission and control: transmission pathways; immunology; hygiene; barrier nursing; isolation and quarantine.
Current veterinary techniques used in diagnosis and treatment: principles of diagnosis and treatment of common diseases and disorders; clinical signs; veterinary terminology.
Specialist first aid and nursing procedures: nursing techniques; handling; asepsis; wound management; complications; principles of first aidIdentification and management of common parasites: microscope techniques; skin scrapes; clinical signs; faeces samples; control of parasite burden.
