Module Aims

To enable student teachers to implement and undertake research activities in a school based context.

To foster a capacity for self-directed work.

To use research as a tool for informing future learning and teaching.

Content Summary

Issues to be addressed will include:

• Deciding on the dissertation thesis title.
• Support in constructing the dissertation to the required format.
• Support and assistance with the use and application of Harvard referencing.
• Consideration and inclusion of an ethical consent form in the research project.

Examples of Dissertation topics

Dissertation topics will be identified which both provide academic and professional development at a level appropriate to an honours degree. Appropriate topics might include:

• An evaluation of the impact on the D & T curriculum of the changes in government policy over the last five years at KS3.

• A study of raising standards through classroom assessment in D & T at KS4.

• The impact of online interactive learning materials on quality of provision in D & T.

• Developing D & T cross-curricular provision with STEM.

• Improving standards in D & T through research and evidence-informed practice.
