Module Aims
The aim of this module is to enable students to gain the fundamental social, interpersonal and academic building blocks for a vibrant and successful University experience. In addition, the module aims to equip students with the transferable professional skills that enable them to function in a professional environment.
Content Summary
This module is designed to introduce individuals to academic and research skills required at level 4 to underpin their further studies and will include the following areas:
Understand individual learning styles and utilizing a range of learning methods develop reflection and problem- solving skills
Develop writing skills for university and professional environments
Research Skills include: Effective use of the library resources
Techniques for note taking summarizing and synthesizing information from a range of sources
An introduction to qualitative and quantitative research methods and their application to the academic and work environments
Professional Skills to include:
Communication skills, Confidence building, teamwork, self –analysis and reflection
General skills such as planning workload. Managing stress, managing time and construction of Personal Development Planning CVs, Job application and interviews.
Identifying opportunities for professional development within the chosen career pathway, sources of funding, development planning (CPD)
