Module Aims
The module is designed to provide a platform upon which the learner can enhance the effectiveness of their workplace experience. For their chosen professional activity, the student will be expected to develop independent learning based on experience in the workplace.
The module will also assist students to make informed decisions regarding their vocational preferences by integrating academic learning and work-based learning. It will help develop the student’s range of work-based skills with the necessary underpinning knowledge for effective practice in a vocational setting and help students begin working systematically to develop those skills, attitudes and qualities required in their preferred workplace activity.
The module will also provide an opportunity for students to develop reflective practice which can be used to enhance the effectiveness of their work within the sports industry.
Content Summary
This module will allow students to gain experience and develop vocational skills that are required to conduct specific roles and responsibilities within the sports industry.
Students will agree with their Mentor and Academic Supervisor a specific ‘project’ which they will be responsible for delivering/producing. This piece of work will form the focus for their report and will be underpinned by evidence and research. Students will learn how to work on their own initiative and as part of a team, will have to make decisions and apply their theoretical knowledge to produce their work.
To student will undertake a placement of 140 hours with an appropriate organisation and will be able to work with a workplace Mentor and/or an Academic Supervisor throughout the module. Students may also accredit appropriate work experience that they have already undertaken by completing the assessment of the module based on that experience.
The content of this module will enable a student to develop those vocational skills associated with being a competent practitioner thus allowing them to reflect on their ability and
suitability to deliver within their chosen area.
