Module Aims

The module is designed to provide a platform upon which the learner can enhance the effectiveness of the workplace experience and reflect on these experiences. For their chosen professional activity, the student will be expected to develop independent learning based on experience in the workplace.
The intention of the module is to provide students with the opportunity to develop their vocational skills of project management and delivery required of individuals within the sports industry.

Content Summary

This will involve an examination of the success of initiatives complemented by an overview of the challenges faced by specific population target groups.

The module will enable the student to engage in critical reflection on their learning through work experience. In addition to study being conducted within the workplace, students will engage in lectures that will discuss how critical theory and models of reflective practice can be used to support and enhance performance in the workplace. Students will learn to understand how reflective practice can provide a framework for experiential learning and how to better understand and develop: themselves; their practice; their ability to make professional judgements and decisions; and their values and beliefs.
To this end the student will undertake a minimum of 140 hours of work experience with an appropriate organisation and obtain employer's agreement to complete an assessment report. Students may also accredit appropriate work experience that they have already undertaken by completing the assessment of the module based on that experience.
To successfully enrol on the module students will have to apply for several positions that will be advertised internally within the University at the Employability Conference which takes place at the end of their 2nd year.
