Module Aims

1. To encourage participation and understanding of both theoretical and practical “how to coach” skills related to rugby union at primary, junior level (5-12 years of age).

2. The Rugby leaders, Rugby Ready, L1CCRU Certificate UKCC WRU courses provide students with a basic introduction to the game of Rugby union and the principles and practice of safe, ethical and effective management and coaching of players at primary, junior and secondary levels.

3. The UKCC WRU children’s Level 1 course aims to develop students “how to coach” skills as well as improve their “what to coach” technical skills

Content Summary

The module will focus on long term player development model and teach aspects of physiological, psychosocial, technical and tactical specifics of the fundamental phase.
Students will learn how various teaching styles are applied to these age groups and apply these principles in their coaching practice.
The module will introduce students to the numerous technical and tactical issues that include technical drills, skill practices and games for understanding suitable for young performers between the ages of 5 and 12.
