Module Aims
Statistics: To enable the learner to understand the collection and interpretation of statistical data and the calculation of statistical quantities, especially in relation to application in proposed Social Science degrees after the Foundation Year
Mathematical Techniques: To enable the learner to understand the application of analytical and graphical methods to the solution of equations, with an introduction to some more advanced methods of algebra.the application of the basic techniques of differential and integral calculus.
Content Summary
Statistics: understand how to collect and interpret statistical data; to calculate measures of central tendency and dispersion; to investigate statistical correlation; and to be able to use basic statistical tests in the analysis of data.
Mathematical Techniques: understand how to use analytical and graphical methods to solve differing types of equation (including simultaneity); to be able to find the solutions to practical problems through use of equations; and to be aware of more advanced methods in algebra, including an exploration of rates of change etcareas by applying the definite integral
