Module Aims
To broaden students awareness of current and established environmental management issues and practice and enable them to critically evaluate strategies for business improvements.
Content Summary
This module will contain a critical evaluation of Environmental Management Systems, (EMS's), their installation and development within an organisation. Using the internationally-recognised environmental standard ISO 14000 as a benchmark, participants will work through the design, implementation and evaluation of an EMS.
The module will also include an exploration of the business needs and culture of incorporating Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) within business operations. Leading companies have remodelled themselves as custodians of the environment as stakeholders begin to assess organisational environmental performance. In this part of the module, participants will explore this phenomenon, and will cover issues such as what is CSR; how and why has CSR developed; and how are businesses meshing CSR into their organisations?
This module will facilitate the development of Personal Development Planning through the delivery of the key skills (identified below).
