Module Aims

To provide students with the knowledge and?understanding of how?to develop PLC based solutions to well defined industrial control problems.

Content Summary

An overview of PLC technology; the historical context and the range of PLC's currently available.
Areas of application, with industrial examples.
Programming languages available, with a focus on ladder logic.
Standard control structures using basic functionality.
Implementation of higher level control strategies, using more specialised functions such as sequencers, counters and timers.
Implementation of analogue control structures using high level PLC's and associated I/O.
Operator interfacing using pushbuttons
Industrial case studies.
