Module Aims

Aims of the module:
This module will require students to use and critically evaluate several software packages to produce a 3D Building Information Model (BIM), and produce and print Plans, Elevations, Sections and Details.

1. Enable Students to develop a comprehensive understanding of how to use 3D Building Information Modelling
(BIM).

2. Enable Students to critically evaluate the importance of collaboration and to understand the Legal implications of data sharing.

3. Enable students to analyse and apply AEC (UK) BIM Standards when creating designs

Content Summary

Synopsis of module content:
Topics considered in this module will include a selection from the following:

1. Evaluate the importance of BIM and collaboration. (Note: Students taking this module as part of the MSc in Building Information Modelling and Sustainability will be given an overview of Law in relation to data/file sharing and the implications if faults are found).

2. Critically evaluate 3D software packages used to create a 3D building model, the 3D environment, commands, libraries and incorporate all building elements to create basic Quantity Take-Offs, Bills of Quantities and Schedules.

3. Reinforcement of the rudimentary 3D Building Information Modelling (BIM) commands for Revit/ArchiCAD/VectaWorks: concepts and tools, project and office set-up, creating a virtual building, project information and document layout.

This module will facilitate the development of Personal Development Planning through the delivery of the key skills identified below in the module descriptor.

This module will be taught either via traditional lectures, supplemented by tutorials, seminars, and workshops, or
'at a distance' i.e. where learners are able to study in a guided way, but are not required to attend traditional campus-based activities.
