Module Aims

To ensure students adjust to the future demands of employment within policing by raising awareness of the skills necessary for successful study in higher education and subsequent successful employment within policing.

To develop the skills required for students to progress in both academic study and communication skills used within the police environment.

Content Summary

Skills needed for academic study and enhanced employability within policing such as:

• Effective communication through oral, written and non-verbal means

• Using academic referencing techniques to record credible and accurate sources.

• Develop skills in researching and using academic text.

• Management of conflict and interpersonal relationships and teams. Motivation and management of others.

• Respect for others in terms of human rights and diversity in public organisations.

• Self-reflection and setting SMART personal targets as part of a personal development plan.

This module includes mandatory formative assessment activities, to support students learning and development prior to summative assessment tasks
