Module Aims
To develop skills associated with investigation, research and presentation through
written (and oral) assessment elements.
To develop student time and task management skills in relation to project
management and completion, (groupwork) and negotiation.
To promote links between the School and a variety of organisations in both the
public and voluntary sectors.
To enable students to use their knowledge of public services to make
recommendations for organisations based in the community.
Content Summary
In this module students work together in groups to undertake a piece of research for a local
public or voluntary organisation. These may include local authorities, police
forces, fire and rescue services, health organisations as well as voluntary
organisations. It will draw on material from across a number of modules and
allow students to gain experience and explore in depth a specific policy area/
policy issue.
An important element of this module is the opportunity to develop a number of
skills. These include research skills such as survey design and interviewing,
planning and co-ordinating skills, as well as group management skills.
