Module Aims
To develop an understanding of the different types of construction projects and industry structure and the implications of these in relation to managing the construction process.
To appreciate the roles of construction personnel and organisations and how they interact to provide the knowledge to perform the basic planning for a construction project, including the consideration of health and safety factors, waste and material management and quality control of the construction process.
Introduction to the development control process.
Introduction to the traditional procurement techniques
Introduction to statutory controls that affect construction developments. Introduction to commercial management of construction.
Introduction to Project Management and Leadership and Management Theories.
Content Summary
Introduction to the range and diversity of construction and development projects
Appreciation of the diversity and structure of the construction industry.
Procedures - The roles and functions of the personnel involved in the construction process.
The organisation of the construction site to include site preparation, site layout and management and control structures.
Health and Safety - basic concepts of Health, Safety the consideration of risk and the environment on a project before and during construction. Site Welfare considerations: co-ordination of subcontractors, suppliers and utility services
The role of the specification and the relevance of British and European standards and codes of practice, Building Regulations etc.
The National laws set down in which permission is needed to undertake 'development'.
This module will facilitate the development of Personal Development Planning through the delivery of the key skills identified below in the module descriptor.
