Module Aims

To analyse and critically evaluate the factors which constitute and influence the Global business environment, in

terms of the complex and unpredictable variables and contexts important to international business, and their

reactions to those variables and contexts and changes to them.

The aims of the module, therefore, are to facilitate a systematic understanding of the key aspects of global

business, including acquisition of coherent and detailed knowledge at the

forefront of defined aspects of this discipline. Enhancing the student's ability to manage their own learning by

making effective use of scholarly reviews and primary sources (for example, refereed research articles and/or

original materials appropriate to the discipline) is another related aim of the module.

Global Business Environment, in particular those aspects which impact upon the Business Internationalisation

Processes.

International Trade and Investment issues, particularly the identification and management of exchange-rate

related risk.

Global Business Management Issues, focusing on the international aspects of traditional management

functions (such as marketing, Human Resources and Purchasing and Supply), as well as strategic decision

making related to issues such as social innovation and sustainability related to energy production and use,

impacts of the connected society, local-global relationships, and how this can affect the entrepreneur in

international contexts

Global Industry Issues, highlighting the different environments and issues created by global business in different

industries (for example, Agri-Foods; Clothing; Automotive; Semi-conductors / Computing; Financial Services)

This module will facilitate the development of Personal Development Planning through the delivery of the key

skills identified below in the module descriptor.
