To develop student time and task management skills in relation to project management and completion.

Content Summary

Students will identify a problem or area for research and submit a proposal either alone or within a group. The student(s) will be guided by the project coordinator and lessons will include typical research project content in order to arm the students sufficiently in readiness for their project activity.

Such content material will include: the research process, clarification and formulation of the research topic, writing and structuring a proposal, project planning including GANNT charts etc., reviewing the literature, various research strategies, ethical considerations, research design, sampling, primary and secondary data collection, presenting data, interviewing techniques and strategies, quantitative and qualitative methodologies, questionnaire design, data analysis (qualitative and quantitative), and writing up the report.
It is essential that students engaged in projects with, or using data referring to children or vulnerable adults, are advised to consult with other professionals and with module tutors and must acquire DBS approval before embarking on any such activity. Furthermore, in the case of all research projects the latest version of the University’s ethical approval form will need to be signed off by all relevant parties.

This module will facilitate the development of Personal Development Planning (PDP) through the delivery of the key skills identified in the module descriptor
