Module Aims
• Introduce students to the use of new media within a production context
• Present the basics of design in new media, in order for students to apply these principles to content creation
• Equip students with the knowledge of how to develop and create websites for the delivery of web based content
• Help students encounter ideas for the creation of different types of interactive narratives that are more suitable for exploitation through the web
Content Summary
Media elements
Students will be introduced to design theory and appropriate media types that are found within the production environment. They will encounter design concepts and think about the suitability of different designs for different applications. Notions of compression, its advantages/disadvantages and approaches to it will also be discussed.
Web Development
Students will be introduced to web development with the aim of imparting an understanding of how this can be used to deploy/act as a platform for creating interactive web content.
Areas such as HTML 5, CSS3, basic responsive design, content management systems such as Wordpress would be investigated, but this is an indicative list and due to the fast paced development within this area, new and relevant technologies would be introduced where appropriate. The focus would always be on design and appropriateness for the delivery of media based content across platforms.
