Module Aims

This module aims to develop the student's ability to:

• Understand the design of experimental, quasi-experimental and non-experimental quantitative studies.
• Recognise and interpret the strengths and limitations of the different quantitative and qualitative research designs used in sport and exercise and coaching science.
• Critically evaluate the research methods employed in empirical research papers relevant to students’ area of study.

Conceptual issues in research methods:
• Internal and external validity
• Experimental and quasi-experimental designs
• Qualitative research methods
• Advanced statistical techniques (multiple regression, factorial ANOVA models, multivariate ANOVA)
