Module Aims

To develop the skills and knowledge required in placement situations and to apply the relevant skills in order to evidence the relevant National Occupational Standards.

To develop an awareness of Welsh language and culture in practice

To develop a knowledge and understanding of safeguarding policy and practice in the early years

To reflect on children’s learning needs and how pedagogy supports this.

Content Summary

To develop the skills and knowledge required in placement situations and to apply the relevant skills in order to evidence the relevant National Occupational Standards.

To develop an awareness of Welsh language and culture in practice

Understand and develop the skills required for professional practice.

Make connections between learning and development theories and their place in practice.

Develop pedagogical understanding that supports teaching and learning in the early years.

Engage in a range of module tasks that evidence understanding of reflective practice.

Development of Welsh language skills and an understanding of the Welsh culture which can be applied in professional practice.

Understand the roles and responsibilities of a range of practitioners in safeguarding including the role of the child protection officer.

Discuss children’s rights to protection and the UNCRC

Identify and implement online safety protocols within practice and within personal and professional use of social media

Level 1 Safeguarding Training

Develop a range of academic skills that can support the learners to fully engage in their studies effectively e.g. essay planning, referencing, writing skills, reflective writing, use of PowerPoint and presentation skills.

Students will need to pass (minimum of 40%) the ‘portfolio’ assessment in order to pass this module. In addition the module must be passed before progressing to the next level or completing the award. Successful completion will need to be supported and evidenced by a satisfactory Placement Monitoring Report where there are no significant ‘causes for concern’ identified in respect of the above learning outcomes including those documented in the Placement Handbook.
