Module Aims

To develop knowledge and understanding of accounting terminology, theoretical frameworks and the main principles of financial accounting, management accounting
and financial management, in order to enable students to produce, interpret and critically evaluate various financial calculations and reports relevant to the decision-making
process for project managers, departmental heads and/or business owners.

To develop a critical awareness of contemporary accounting techniques that are utilised by organisations for the purposes of decision-making, monitoring, control and compliance.

Content Summary

One of the prerequisites of a successful project manager, departmental manager and/or business owner is the ability to produce, understand, interpret and critically evaluate financial information. Managers are often required to make investment decisions, manage financial resources, interpret financial information and interact with accountants in their day-to-day roles, but the terminology of the accountant can sometimes act as a barrier.

Accounting and Financial Control demystifies the language of the accountant and builds skills to enable students to produce,
understand, interpret and critically evaluate financial information such as investment appraisal analyses, budgets, financial statements and annual reports in order to select and manage projects and make decisions that will affect the strategic direction of the organisation.
