Module Aims

Provide a vehicle for the examination of a range of major challenges facing sport in contemporary contexts.

Provide students with an opportunity to demonstrate a breadth and depth of understanding of key issues within sport resulting from sustained study of the discipline.

Content Summary

Critical analysis of a range of\\u2028issues in contemporary sports development including:

Facilitation, development of sport and strategic planning for sport

Increasing participation in sport and physical activity

Consideration of special populations and shifting priorities for sport

Role of sport within the cross\\u2028cutting agenda - health, economy, social inclusion, diversity, poverty etc.

Creating performance pathways

Supporting elite sports development (LTAD, TASS)

Legacy of 2012 on UK regions

The role of NGB’s and other organisations in the role of sport development

Local and national sport initiatives

Funding for sport in the UK
