Module Aims

This module is an introduction of aircraft design emphasising on the conceptual design of civil aircraft.

Content Summary

The topics include design process, airworthiness, safety and environmental requirements and sustainability, preliminary aircraft load & weight estimation, fuselage layout, engine selection, wing and tail design, aircraft drag estimation, mass and balance, cost estimation, and overall configuration including consideration of the necessary sub-systems. It also introduces to students the aspects of aerodynamics, the mechanics of flight, stability, propulsion, and subsequently the flight performance of fixed wings aircraft.
