Module Aims

Enable students to apply and enhance their engineering knowledge base, understanding and transferable skills to a large design project with practical relevance, where possible linked with industry.

Allow students to integrate and apply their engineering, project management, and broader skills within a team environment.

Content Summary

The group work will be based on a large design project suitable to a group of 3 to 5 students, where possible linked with industry. The project will require students to demonstrate logical thought, critical analysis and sound justification (e.g. cost, production, assembly, distribution of work & lead time to completion) for their proposed solution. Module also encourages innovative and creative activities through group discussion. The solution must also take into consideration all other relevant implications such as ethical, legal constraints, sustainability and environmental issues. All work including the reports and presentations should be completed to a high standard with the accompanying/ appropriate references.

Groups of typically 3 to 5 students will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The management structure will be determined by the team. Regular review meetings will be held, where formal minutes will be taken and recorded, at which the allocation and progress of work will be monitored by the supervisor(s).
