Module Aims

The overall aim of this module is to enable the learner to engage in reflection of their learning through their work experience. The module will provide an opportunity for students to develop reflective practice that can be used to enhance the effectiveness of their work-related experience. Students will be provided with the opportunity to conduct their work-related experience within a number of key vocational areas related to the coaching, administration, and development industries. The intention of the module is to provide students with the opportunity to develop the vocational skills of practical delivery required of individuals within the sports industry.

Students will undertake a period of work-based learning under the direction of an

Employer (nominated work-based supervisor) and academic supervisor, enabling them to learn and develop in a working environment.

Content Summary

The learning experience will be reflected upon in relation to the context of the workplace and the expected work-related practice at a level appropriate to the learner. A work-based learning programme for the student will be agreed with a work-based mentor and roles and responsibilities will be outlined before the placement commences.

This module will facilitate the development of Personal Development Planning (PDP) through the delivery of the key skills identified in the module descriptor.

The content of this module will enable a student to develop those vocational skills associated with being a competent practitioner and that will allow the student to reflect on their ability to deliver practically within their chosen area.

The module will allow students to reflect on relevant vocational skills that are required to conduct specific roles and responsibilities within their placement.

Throughout the placement the student will complete a portfolio, reflecting on tasks completed and applying the concepts and principles of coaching, administration, and development in the employment context.

Developing and monitoring development plans

The module will provide students with the skills, knowledge and understanding to progress into the Year 3 Applied Professional Project module. The content of this module will enable a student to develop those vocational skills associated with being a competent practitioner and that will allow the student to reflect on their ability to deliver practically within their chosen area.
