Module Aims
This module aims to:
Advance the practical and creative audio skills needed for successful sound on media projects.
Introduce students to the principles and practice of producing strong, well thought through sound landscapes appropriate for different media. It will explore the way sound contributes to storytelling as it is adapted and interpreted for different media
Enable students to work effectively in production teams, with each member understanding the crucial role sound plays in production.
Content Summary
This module will introduce students to strategies for adapting and interpreting a written drama for various media platforms.
Students will be encouraged to create appropriate sound designs that often accompany visual media and sometimes act as stand-alone artefacts (as in radio) so that believable, visceral atmospheres and sound effects for the appropriate media are created.
Often, students will start with existing source material but will be encouraged to understand that adaptation/interpretation involves a high level of creativity and agency. The students will be introduced to various practitioners’ and to inspire their creative work and reflection.
