Module Aims

This module aims to assist students in developing advanced competencies in behaviour analysis, including those assessment and intervention strategies that might be highly specialised to particular populations, settings, or behaviours. The module also will facilitate students’ skills of managing behaviour change programmes and providing systems support. Students will access recent literature to inform assessment and treatment practices and demonstrate how current scientific findings inform practice. They also will learn to synthesise scientific findings as rationale for clinical recommendations and effectively present those findings to consumers and professionals.

Content Summary

Students will actively engage in behaviour analytic practice (minimum of 20 hours per week, inclusive of supervision) aimed at developing the advanced competencies required by the Behaviour Analysis Certification Board Task List (most current version). Practice will occur either in USW’s Behaviour Analysis Clinic or in an approved, external placement. All work will be conducted under the supervision of a Board Certified Behaviour analyst. Activities will include (but not be limited to):
• Designing, implementing and evaluating behaviour analytic assessment and intervention programmes
• Overseeing the implementation of behaviour analytic interventions by others, including providing training
• Communicating results and practical recommendations to a range of audiences, including
clients, practitioners, and parents/carers
• Effectively disseminating results in academic and professional settings

Assessment Criteria

Assessment Category Assessment Type Description Duration Word Count Weight (%) Best of? Pass Mark
Synchronous Onsite Practical Assessment Work Placement 1 Supervisors will provide weekly (summative) evaluations of student performance and communicate these to students during supervision meetings. Supervisors will then consider all supervision feedback across the module (in collaboration with other supervisors, if appropriate) to determine an aggregate mark at the end of the module. 0 N/A 70 No 50
Asynchronous Assessment Self Reflective Assessment 1 Students will provide a reflective summary of their experiences on placement, in which they evaluate their the progression of skill across the course 0 1500 10 No 50
