Module Aims
The aim of this module is to:
• Examine health and wellbeing in relation to children and young people and to become familiar with health promotion models
• Explore current health initiatives in relation to provision for children and young people in a range of settings and within the student’s own area of professional practice
• Reflect on their effectiveness.
Content Summary
This module will examine the role of the World Health Organisation, and other statutory bodies (in particular home nation) relating to children and young people’s health and wellbeing Students will examine principles and practices to support the health and wellbeing of children and young people in relation to practice and the children and young people sector Epidemiology and the incidence and prevalence of relevant childhood illnesses will be discussed. Current health trends and initiatives, such as screening and surveillance, health promotion models and approaches will be identified. This will lead on to relevant health education programmes and agencies and the importance of policy implications for health education for children and young people. The principles of behaviour change in children and young people's settings, to include factors that drive change and theories of health promotion. A holistic approach to health, well-being and resilience for children and young people will be inherent in this module.
