To introduce the anatomical & physiological variation in the digestive systems in a range of animals.
To promote an awareness of the dietary needs of a variety of species
To investigate and discuss factors important in developing a feeding regime.
Content Summary
Digestive Systems: Structure and function of the digestive system (Ruminant, non-ruminant). Digestive enzymes.
Dietary Needs: Structure, function and sources of carbohydrates, lipids, protein, minerals, vitamins, water, fibre. Nutritional disorders, Food analysis.
Feeding Regimes: Factors affecting nutrient requirements. Selection of suitable feedstuffs. Ration formulation. Practical considerations.
