Module Aims

• Explore the impact of research on the development of CYP’s language, literacy, numeracy and digital literacy skills (LLN and DL).
• Analyse the assessment practices of the LNF and DL in educational settings.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of current initiatives to promote LLN and DL.
• Make recommendations to help improve practice, implementation of initiatives, resources, the environment and outcomes.
• Reflect upon the suitability of the environment and resources of CYP setting to promote LLN and DL skills.

Content Summary

• Approaches and perspectives of current theoretical concepts regarding acquisition of language and numeracy processes - evidence relevant learning theories and strategies.
• Current literature on LLN and DL and how this can link to learners own professional practice and workplace procedures/practices; including frameworks beyond Wales and the UK.
• Study relevant curriculum and assessment frameworks against which progress is measured (NFER, WG Tests, FP, NC, ESW).
• Explore planning and development of programmes to maximise opportunities for CYP LLN and DL.
• Outline proposals to promote CYP involvement in evaluating their own progress in the development of LLN and DL.
