Module Aims

To provide students with a critical awareness of contemporary research and research methodology in an educational context.

To evaluate and critically compare a range of research methods that can be used in an education setting.

To develop an understanding of data analysis methods and their usage.

Content Summary

Generating appropriate research questions
Researching and constructing literature reviews
Data collection methods
Ethics of research including:
• BERA Guidelines for ethical research (2011)
• USW ethical procedures
• responsibility to participants – voluntary informed consent, right to withdraw, risk assessment, confidentiality and data protection
• research ethics with children and young people – assent/informed consent, approval from guardians or ‘responsible others’, dealing with disclosures.
