Module Aims

This module will enable students to explore a variety of therapeutic approaches within the psychodynamic framework and the arts therapies and apply these in art psychotherapy practice. They will be able to critically evaluate the importance of institutional dynamics on clinical art psychotherapy practice, and to locate the service user in the clinical work. The module also aims to help develop the students’ clinical practice, deepening awareness of evidence based practice including assessment protocols, formulation and other evaluative processes.

Content Summary

Lectures and tutor facilitated seminars will deliver knowledge regarding relevant approaches in art psychotherapy work and arts therapies work in general. Group supervision seminars and group facilitation will enable students to explore a number of approaches to responding effectively to clients' therapeutic needs and to support their developing clinical practice. Students must attend weekly personal therapy (20 weeks minimum).
