Module Aims

To develop awareness of the practicalities, opportunities and pitfalls of electronic business (e-business) systems and the importance of integrating an e-business strategy with the organisation's strategy.

To be able to analyse and model e-business problems of a defined scope, and to propose suitable e­business systems and technologies. This may require students to integrate the skills and knowledge they have acquired during the course to produce practical solutions to realistic problems.

To apply appropriate legal, ethical, social and professional standards to all aspects of work undertaken.

Content Summary

Analysis of e-business strategies:

  • Environmental and capability analyses;
  • Strategy formulation;
  • Implementation and assessment of a strategy.

Technological base of e-business:

  • Electronic data interchange and mark-up languages;
  • Database connectivity and scripting languages;
  • Mobile e-business technologies;
  • Integrating e-business technology with the back office.

Information and network security:

  • Types of crime related to e-business;
  • Security technologies;
  • Encryption, digital signatures and public/private key infrastructure;
  • Secure payment systems and funds transfer.
