Module Aims
To develop the students’ abilities to screen and assess an individual at risk of dyslexia.
To develop the students’ abilities to effectively use assessment data to develop a specialist evidence based intervention programme at the individual level.
To enable students to make appropriate and reasonable adjustments to the curriculum or within the workplace to accommodate the needs of learners with dyslexia.
To present students with a range of skills, knowledge and tools, including ICT, to facilitate supporting, advising and assisting colleagues to formulate and enact appropriate responses to the needs of learners with dyslexia.
Content Summary
The content of the module is governed by the BDA’s criteria for AMBDA accreditation:
Individual approaches to the management of those with dyslexia specific including policy generation.
Construction of individual learner Profiles/Teaching Programmes, and maintenance of professional and personal Teaching Practice Portfolios.
Dyslexia, Maths and Dyscalculia
Multi-sensory teaching approaches.
Uses of ICT to support individual learning and teaching.
Social and psychological implications of experiencing dyslexia.
