Module Aims

Develop the essential research, writing and broadcasting skills of sports reporting for a range of media, including television, radio, newspapers and digital platforms.

Develop strong organisation and time management skills including reporting in live environments and to tight deadlines.

Content Summary

This is a practical module with focuses primarily on practicing and developing reporting skills. Students will explore the basics of journalism & what makes sports journalism different from other forms of journalism. They will understand what is needed to develop a strong yet unique writing and broadcasting style which enables them to feel confident in their approach to reporting on a range of sports. Some of this practical work will be done at our Sports Park in Treforest.
Practical skills including writing; voice training; writing to pictures. The practical skills will be enhanced via live reporting for TV & radio.
During the first six weeks of term students will learn the practical skills necessary to operate in a broadcasting environment. These skills will be developed sufficiently in conjunction with the reporting skills needed to produce live sports bulletins by the end of the sixth week.
