Module Aims

To develop students as reflective professionals through production of a portfolio of original and substantial journalism, adapted and delivered for selected platforms, both through team work and individually.

Develop reflective and analytical skills based on an understanding of professional practice.

Content Summary

Students will produce work to professional or near professional standards, demonstrating strong story-finding and story-telling skills; the ability to identify and pitch stories for a range of platforms, both traditional and digital; develop networking and team working skills and identify their areas of specialism both in terms of sport(s) and skills.

Students will reflect during their project work and will submit a final written reflection based on their knowledge and experience of professional practice.
Social and digital media will help them identify their USPs as sports journalist and as soon-to-be professionals, looking to carve out a career in one of more areas of the industry.

LO1 Produce work that uses the effective manipulation of one or more of sound, images, and the written word, including understanding relevant industry standards and how they are defined and achieved.<br />Demonstrate an advanced ability to construct original and engaging multimedia sports content for broadcast on TV and radio and online while showing<br />a sophisticated understanding of the similarities and differences of each platform.
LO2 Contribute to live or external projects, working professionally and independently on sub tasks in a professional manner which demonstrates a work ethic that matches industry standard expectations and demonstrates advanced practical skills and the application of underlying theory.
LO3 Understand, carry out and critically reflect upon journalistic roles with reference to professional contexts.<br />Demonstrate strong and sustained levels of self-reflection about the skills and abilities needed to function effectively as a sports journalist.
