Module Aims

This module aims to build on the essential skills developed in the first and second years to allow students to produce multi-media sports news to a professional level.

It will also allow students to consider their learning in a professional, reflective and reflexive way.

Content Summary

Live or as live reporting days will form the basis of this module, which will see students producing content to deadline and across platforms. The outlet for these stories will be varied, sometimes single-media, sometimes multi-media, but always in an environment which requires them to work to industry deadlines and in professional conditions.
Students will work collaboratively on a six week live brief which will culminate with the ‘broadcast’ of a TV programme. Content for the programme will be generated from current sports news and longer form investigative pieces which will enable students to enhance their research and production skills in an environment which simulates industry conditions and standards.

The students will be placed on a rota over the period, working full 8-hour days to fulfil the number of hours required by the module. Lecturers will provide robust and consistent feedback throughout the project. Gaps in knowledge will be filled by workshop sessions during the period of the module.
