Module Aims

To teach students advanced skills in specialist subject areas: Ceramics and Printmaking.

To further develop initiative, individual and imaginative approaches to media, methods and processes.

To enable the application of these skills to other developmental modules in art practice

Employ materials, media, techniques, methods, technologies and tools associated with the discipline studies with skill and imagination whilst observing good working practices.

Analyse and critique information and experiences, formulate independent judgements and articulate reasoned arguments through reflection, review and evaluation.

Content Summary

The module will require you to develop an innovative and experimental line of investigation that utilises and explores numerous application and construction techniques within printmaking and ceramics.

You will consider health and safety, and the consideration of how such practices may relate to other disciplines will be examined.

Printmaking (Delivered in Term 1)
You will explore and develop advanced skills in silk-screen, planographic, intaglio and relief printmaking, producing a small edition of prints in three areas. Techniques taught will involve methods of registration such as aligning and overlaying images and colours, engraving, cutting and distressing on different surfaces.

You may explore the use of printmaking in relation to another media.

Ceramics (Term 2)
The module will explore ceramics mould-making and the construction of slip-casted forms in both mass production and one-off sculptural pieces. You will be encouraged to research and become aware of historical as well as contemporary ceramic art and artists. You can chose to explore the use of ceramics in relation to other media.
