Module Aims
To investigate the role research plays in government policy and decision making.
To develop students’ understanding of the research process and its application to health and social care practice.
Broaden and deepen students’ understanding of approaches to research appropriate to their work situation and subject of study.
To develop students’ skills in research, data analysis, critical analysis and analytical thinking.
Content Summary
Examination of key Welsh Government health and social care policies and strategies past and present and the research underpinning them.
An introduction to the Research Governance Framework for Health and Social Care in Wales and an examination of the underpinning principles of good governance.
Analysis and critique of policies, reports and official documents related to the area of study.
An introduction to the principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) that governs the ethical decision making processes in health research.
Students will learn about research methods for health to include developing research proposals, the research design process, writing and reviewing literature, research questions, SMART principles in research and research study design.
Students will also learn how to analyse and interpret a variety of data sets, critically discuss findings, draw conclusions, develop an argument and make recommendations for practice.
